Remember Geocities?

geocities

Of course you do, we still treasure it in our hearts as the everyman or woman’s free piece of the Internet. Thankfully this awful trend has declined and web design has improved somewhat since the early web 2.0 explosion. But in Google’s quest to take over your life, they’ve launched Google Sites, something painfully similar to Yahoo’s endeavors.

The feature came after their acquisition of JotSpot, a wiki provider used for sharing information and documents online. Like Google itself, the application is very simple. When used with your Google reader, news, calender, docs, etc. it can be somewhat helpful in organizing your life on the Internet, a planner you can access anywhere if you have wifi or a connection.

I’m using it as a private home page for links and it can serve as an organizational tool for work groups, but other than that, it’s pretty limited. This could actually be a good thing determining from how crazy the common person can get when playing web designer.

Here’s one example of use for the app.
