Get some credit

If your plans for a beach vacation in the gulf have been crushed, you may want to go somewhere closer to home this summer, or just have a few fun weekends instead.

The Fort Worth City Credit Union can save you some money if you’re including amusement parks in your vacay. They offer special discounts to their customers, but luckily for everyone else, they offer these on their homepage with no secret password required. Thanks FWCCU! Check out all the discounts here. Save more money on tickets and parking by buying online before you go.

…Sax the Night Away?

There is no shortage of free music in this town. And rightly so. But the Third Thursday Jazz series is held throughout the summer at a place where you’re normally shushed for reading aloud.

The Fort Worth Public Library is celebrating cool throughout the hot summer with their free jazz series. This week the Mack Goldsbury Quartet will show you why their namesake and saxophonist has received two Grammy nominations and played with Stevie Wonder.

[If only he could do this.]

Head out to the Central Library on 3rd Street in downtown Fort Worth to hear them play. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Click here for details.

Update: Spaz the night away

A photographer from DFW.com took our picture at the Spazmatics concert at 8.0 and we ended up on the Fort Worth Star-Telegram website– homepage! Click through to see the band, the venue, the outfits, and us!

Spaz the night away

If you ever get a chance to see wacky, 80s cover band the Spazmatics, take advantage. The four man band draws an 80s dressed crowd of all ages wherever they go, taking everyone on a fun trip to everything old school.

spazmatics

The guys don costumes reminiscent of Revenge of the Nerds and recreate your favorite synthesized tunes flawlessly.

They play in San Antonio, Austin, Houston and DFW. I saw them at the 8.0 bar in Fort Worth. Under a semi-covered patio, there was a full crowd of fans despite the rain.

Check out the guys the next time they grace our stages with Springsteen, Men at Work, Devo and their entertaining antics. They play at the Glass Cactus next weekend in Grapevine. Click here for a full schedule.
